A controversial Landowners Protection Act—Senate Bill 2901, is advancing out of the House with a vote of 78 to 36. The measure would limit the liability of landowners when a serious crime occurs on their property. Critics of the bill say it removes the incentive for businesses to provide reasonable security—making Mississippi less safe. It is going back to the Senate for more work.
