[dramatic music] I really want to go home right now.
Dan: Challenges become more difficult.
Cyclops has one eye.
I got no clue.
Dan: Connections struck close to the heart.
That's my dad.
Deceased.
And just like that, I got closure.
Nicole: I got you baby.
Dan: Team Black, you are in first place.
What will you choose?
John: It was a no-brainer.
We're going to skip our first challenge tomorrow.
Dan: And Team Blue came one strike closer to heading home.
Michael and Dylan, you have received your second strike.
Michael: I don't know, today it just wasn't our day.
Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing.
Come on!
Hurry, hurry, hurry!
Dan: to win $50,000 dollars.
Whoo!
Dan: And to find their family.
[knocking] [camera shutter clicks] ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh!
♪ ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh!
♪ ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh!
♪ ♪ Dan: The sun rises over Day Six of "Relative Race."
All four teams feel the pressure of competition as they inch closer to their unknown finish line, or closer to elimination.
Michael: There's nothing we can do about what happened yesterday.
It's over.
Michael and Dylan, I'm sorry to say you have received your second strike.
Michael: No strike today, we're in a good mood.
Got the lucky hat on this morning, looking at maps, looking at options, directions so we can avoid a strike today.
Dan: Team Blue begins their day in Pumpkintown, South Carolina.
After yesterday's loss, they're the first team to receive their second strike, making them the only team in danger of heading home this evening.
Rebecca: Hey, you ready?
Dan: Team Black, however, starts out with another first-place victory in Reno, Nevada.
Day six!
I think there's a target on our back.
Yeah.
But the good thing is, I don't think there's a lot of things they can do to stop us.
Dan: Having chosen the game benefit, Team Black will skip their first challenge and with four wins in five days nothing seems to be slowing them down.
Rebecca: Go Team Black, right?
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Dan: Meanwhile, in the middle of the pack, Team Green will depart from Montgomery, Alabama, while Team Red starts their day 2400 miles away in Santa Rosa, California.
Troy: After getting three second place, I mean, I'm tired of silver.
We need some gold.
We know that we don't have military training, we know we don't have cross-fit training, so-- So that definitely is something we have to think about, but we're prepared for it.
Dan: Now, all the teams await their fate with the start of today's race.
[phone dings] Wait, wait, wait, oh.
See where we're going today.
[phone dings] Troy: Early burly Dan.
Oh wait, I think I just got a text from Dan.
Michael: "Good morning, teams, "and welcome to Day Six of 'Relative Race.'
"Team Red will be traveling to Union City, California.
"Team Blue will be traveling to Hartwell, Georgia.
John: " Team Black will be traveling "to Walnut Creek, California.
And Team Green will be traveling to Tyrone, Georgia."
Georgia!
We got this!
"Today's first place winner will receive a mystery prize or a Day Ten benefit."
Mmm.
"You have quickly learned how beneficial fire stations can be "in finding your relative.
John: "However, that lesson is over.
"You may no longer ask a fire station for any help.
"You may no longer ask a fire station for any help.
You may no longer ask a fire station for help."
Morgan: It's okay.
That's directly at us.
"Your time starts now."
Troy: Oh, Dan!
Nicole: Which team is he penalizing there?
Come on.
Let's go.
Thank you, guys.
We're out of here.
Jamie: Okay, we'll see you later.
Thank you so much.
Here.
Be careful.
Put that down that side.
Rebecca: California, here we come, baby.
[sighs] Nicole: Using fire stations to help for directions has been taken off the table.
Our fire station didn't really help us at all yesterday.
Yeah, I mean we-- So, it doesn't really matter to me.
[laughs] I have a plan B for that though.
Ba, ba, ba.
Jamie: We're going to-- Tyrone, Georgia.
Which we know Georgia because we grew up in Georgia.
We feel pretty good about getting to Georgia.
Do you know where 85 North is?
I'm not a hundred percent sure how to get out of here.
You're not?
I think today is going to be an easy navigation day to get to our next location.
It's easy, cheesy, brother.
Troy: Day Six, get 'er done on the 101.
Dan: It's Day Six of "Relative Race."
All of our teams continue to race along different paths, all across the country, each team looking for different relatives, each team in a different city, all of our teams looking for the finish line, this season in an undisclosed location.
At the start of our race six days ago in Washington D. C., all of our teams surrendered their smart phones and all use of technology in exchange for paper maps and flip phones with no GPS or internet access.
Now they're headed to a new city.
They must take a selfie to prove that they made it, successfully complete a set of challenges, and discover their new relatives, each within a different allotted time.
The team that goes over their allotted time the most will receive a strike.
Three strikes and you are out of the race.
Welcome to Day Six of "Relative Race."
[electric guitar riff] Rebecca: Just when I think we're figuring this out, it seems like they change it.
Like the whole no fire department thing.
Yeah.
Uh, that changes things.
Dan: The routes for our teams begin to merge together.
In California, Team Black must find Walnut Creek and complete only their second challenge in an allotted time of 3 hours and 43 minutes.
Troy: What do you think about the mystery?
Nicole: I do not trust a mystery benefit at all.
We gotta go Day Ten, Day Ten benefit.
Dan: Team Red is headed to Union City, California.
They have an allotted time, including both challenges, of 1 hour and 43 minutes.
Michael: This is a piece of cake with whip cream on top.
It doesn't get much easier than this, getting to Hartwell.
What if we just, like, we're like, we're going to get a strike and go to church.
Morgan: Yeah.
Do y'all want us to just take a strike and go to our home church?
Dan: Meanwhile, Teams Blue and Green will be racing to Georgia.
The sisters will be headed to Tyrone with an allotted time of three hours and five minutes.
Michael: Relax and enjoy the ride.
Just make sure you don't hit nothing and you keep it at speed limit.
We're gold, brother.
No bubbles, no troubles.
Dan: And finally, Team Blue will be navigating to Hartwell, Georgia.
Their allotted time for the day is 2 hours and 21 minutes.
And now, ♪ Bring up the heat!
♪ teams press on with the long road ahead and competition at their side.
Dylan: Team Black is so competitive compared to everyone else.
So after we won last night, did you feel bad?
Like almost, is this even a competition?
Michael: See, Team Red and Team Green and us, I think we're very supportive of each other.
Team Black, no.
John: To have now Team Blue get their second strike, I mean, that's like, huge.
I want them to be able to see all their family, but at the same time, somebody has to go home.
Michael: It's like look at us, pound our chest.
You know, I'm not like that.
John: Three days in a row, we've hit first place.
Rebecca: Winner's circle here.
John: Boom.
[explosion noise] ♪ We got no choice but to go hard.
♪ Dan: While most teams strategize, Team Green passes the time doing what they do best.
I want to put my hair up.
Jamie: I'm wearing a cap backwards.
[rapping] Yeah, my cap is backwards, I mean business, I don't have time for the craziest, the craziest, I am on the road to Georgia, where I was from, I know these streets like the back of my thumb.
I know my fingers because they're on my hand and I'm here to win 50,000, man.
So don't worry, don't even stop.
I've got a place to go and this-- And-and-and-and-and-and-and John is a cop, but I'mma do good.
Dan: Meanwhile... [guitar music] Team Blue wonders what mysteries Georgia may have in store for them.
Michael: Who would you want to meet?
Dylan: Someone on your mother's side, like-- Yeah, oh, believe me.
It doesn't matter who, just someone.
We are more than halfway through the race, and it's really starting to bother me.
Yeah.
Michael: My father told me her name.
I got her name, but that's all I got.
So I don't even know if she's alive.
♪ I was adopted at birth, and I just pray that I have an opportunity to find my biological mother because she's the only one that can answer everything.
Every day we're here in this race, I want to meet my mother.
Period.
Dan: Anticipation builds as destinations approach and teams hustle to get their city selfies.
Troy: Let's go, babe.
Jamie: Here we go.
Dan: But Team Black comes to a halt.
[Rebecca sighs] Cars everywhere, and it was taking forever.
Dan: And their lead begins to vanish.
Well, this might do us in for the day.
Dan: As the race heats up... Michael: Go, go, go.
Do not stop.
Go.
Dan: Three teams scramble to get their city selfie.
Jamie: This is not a parking spot.
Troy: Let's go, babe.
Let's go.
Go, go, go, go, go.
Jamie: Tyrone, the town of Tyrone.
I'm, like, going to be pantsless.
Why are our pants so loose today?
Michael: Pull right up here and stop right at the sign.
Stop.
Got it.
Michael: Stop!
Got it?
Here we go.
Straight up.
[camera shutter clicks] ♪ [camera shutter clicks] [camera shutter clicks] [phone dings] ♪ Dan: Meanwhile, one team hits California's infamous traffic.
Rebecca: Oh, babe.
Yeah.
There's an accident.
[car horns honking] Oh.
This stinks.
[phone dings] Troy: "Welcome to Union City!
Your first challenge is located at Casa Verde Park."
"East Greenville Street."
"At 945 Senoia Road."
We know where that is!
We know where Senoia is.
Let's go!
Michael: All right, we're at East-- It doesn't have a block number.
Um...
Right here.
Um... Um, should I just whip around.
There's a spot right there.
Perfect.
Michael: Park.
Got it.
♪ Rebecca: Is there any way to get off now around this?
Oh, well, this might do us in for the day.
Dan: As Team Black sits on the freeway, their competition arrives at challenge number one.
Okay.
All right, read it, babe.
Nicole: "Sculpturades."
"Sculpt the clay blindfolded and in tandem-- "While your teammate guesses the word.
"Your allotted time today includes fifteen minutes to complete this challenge."
Okay.
Playing with some clay.
Dan: Today's first challenge is the guessing game of sculpturades.
Teammates will sculpt the clay into objects that their partners must correctly identify.
However, there's a catch: The partner doing the sculpting must sit behind their teammate and wear a blindfold.
Teams will only have one minute to correctly identify each sculpture before switching positions and proceeding on to a new object.
Once the teams have correctly guessed 15 sculptures, they'll receive the address to their next challenge.
Okay, you sculpt first.
I'll sculpt first.
Put this on.
Okay.
Okay.
Sunshine.
The sun.
A flower, a daisy.
Nicole: You're walking over a bridge.
Um, covering up in a blanket, going to bed.
The ancient continent of Pangaea!
[whistle blows] Man 1: Time's up!
Switch.
Quicksand.
Oh my gosh.
♪ Dough, hammer.
Troy: You only had a minute to sculpt that word, so you were under the clock to try to sculpt as quick as possible.
You can't get too much detail.
Brain, thinking, idea, light bulb.
Whoo!
That's it.
[bell dings] Jamie: A balloon.
A light bulb!
[bell dings] Yes!
Dylan: I got nothing, man.
This is not helping.
So some of them were just out there.
How do you get that?
[whistle] Michael: Light bulb.
Light bulb.
You get less and less detail down the road and more and more animated, like, you just take clay and you just-- [laughs] Troy: Golf club, golf ball.
Hockey, hockey.
Whoo!
We really surprised ourself on this one.
I ain't going to lie.
Um, a trap.
[bell dings] Whoo!
Uh, a big sun and ground.
Sun and Earth.
Troy: Yes!
[bell dings] Uh, a toupee!
A wig.
[bell dings] Thinking, thinking.
Think.
Yes!
Got it.
That's it!
[cheering and laughing] Nicole: We did great.
We're amazing scultpors.
"Your relative served in the military.
Head to One World Crossfit and Self-Defense."
Crossfit, baby.
Let's go!
We just laughed through 98 percent of it.
Um, people.
They're going hide and seek.
Oh-- [laughs] You're killing people.
[laughs] Dylan: A fence.
A cage, uh...
Uh, bars.
[Michael groans] Michael: We kept missing and missing, missing, and we thought, well, maybe this is going down the same road we were at yesterday.
Jail!
Jail?
It was jail!
Where else do you go if that happens?
Dan: While some teams are stuck in sculpturades, Team Black is still stuck on the freeway.
Rebecca: I think this is gonna like completely wash out any time we gain from skipping our first challenge.
[sighs] If not more.
Coming out of Sacramento and running into that traffic just made it really difficult for us.
Troy: All right, Team Black.
"You missed out on a fun challenge today."
Boring drive is all you get to do.
[laughs] [phone dings] It says, "You missed out on a fun challenge today!"
Oh... John: Apparently they had completed their first challenge already.
Rebecca: So, with the first-place victory, if it's going to be enough to save us, I'm crossing my fingers.
I honestly don't know.
[intense music] Nicole: When we got the envelope for a crossfit gym, we were pretty excited.
Yeah, we're ready.
I'm like, about time.
It's about time.
"Since your relative served in the Air Force, you will test your military knowledge.
Your allotted time for the day includes 20 minutes to complete this challenge."
Okay.
Nicole: They had trivia questions and if we got them wrong, then we had to do a physical penalty.
Man 2: Here's your first question.
Okay.
"How many presidents served in the U.S. Military?
Twenty, twenty-four, twenty-six, or thirty?"
Going to go with B, 24.
Man 2: That is a down.
Down.
Man 2: One of you need to climb the rope.
Okay, got it.
Nicole: The first one included a rope climb, which he nailed.
[bell rings] [laughs] Got it!
I got it!
Next clue.
Dylan: Ooh, boy.
So one of the words I got that I had to make was "photograph."
Rectangle.
Game controller.
Give me a piece of clay in front of my face and go like that.
Dylan: That's exactly what I did!
Michael: Were you?
Really?
[whistle] Photograph.
"Actor Jimmy Stewart attained what Air Force rank?"
Ooh.
A lieutenant colonel.
[buzzer] Man 2: Incorrect.
For the most part, it was a guess for us.
One, two, three, go.
But you know what?
Those challenges didn't hold us back much.
Nicole: The challenges were great.
I wish we could have done those and, like, skipped a question.
Nice!
Come on.
Jamie: A mountain!
A piece of beef.
A steak.
A rib-eye.
Uh, a stain.
Yes!
Go.
We were just trying to get our feet down.
Took a little bit, but we got it going.
Crumbs?
Yes!
Jamie: Uh, roll the die.
Die?
[bell dings] Man 1: That's correct!
Wi-fi!
Yeah.
It worked!
Finally got it.
"Your relative enjoys baking with chocolate.
Head into the Sweetery Bakery to whip up something delicious."
Car crash, a car accident.
[bell dings] Man 1: That's correct!
I don't even think I got any of Jamie's.
I think Jamie got all of mine.
"Your relative is vegan.
"Locate the table of food at the southwest corner of the park."
Okay, let's go to that then.
"An aircraft that starts with the letter 'H' has what specialization?"
A helicopter's called a huey.
Go B.
Troy: "H" is called a huey.
Nicole: Trust me.
B.
They search and rescue like a hospital.
That is correct.
[cheers] Troy: She stood her ground and said, "No, this is the one," and she was right.
Okay.
"Your relative lives at 2 Tartarian Way."
Let's do it.
You rock, Brett.
See you, buddy.
Nicole: Thanks, Brett!
Walnut Creek, one mile.
John: We were hoping that by skipping our first challenge, we kind of maybe saved a little bit of time, but we'll be having a hard time tonight.
Hopefully we don't get a strike.
[camera shutter clicks] Rebecca: Is that it in the background?
Yep, it's in it.
Send it, send it, send it.
Team Black finally made it.
Let's send them straight to their second challenge.
♪ Jamie: We run up to the table, we see cereal, we see chips, we see-- Morgan: Cookies.
Jamie: More stuff.
"Your relative follows a vegan diet.
"Correctly identify the ten vegan food options "on the table.
"Your allotted time for the day includes ten minutes to complete this challenge."
Okay.
Woman 1: Welcome to the Sweetery Bakery, guys.
Thank you.
Woman 1: Your relative has quite the sweet tooth and your challenge is to recreate this cake.
Okay.
Morgan: We had to identify what was vegan and if we identified incorrectly, then we had to eat that non-vegan item.
I think those chips might be vegan.
Jamie: Okay.
Morgan: Chips don't have animal products in them.
Jamie: We might as well try.
If not, I love chips.
Not vegan.
Okay.
Initially, I was a little excited because we were both hungry.
These are getting gross.
Blech!
But after eating some of those things on the table, I was feeling extremely sick.
Morgan: Just dump it in your mouth.
[mumbling] It was a very intricate cake, right?
And the example cake couldn't be brought into the kitchen where we were working, so we had to memorize patterns and pieces and how many was on this side and where this goes and where that goes and then run back to the kitchen to work on our cake.
Once the two cakes were completely matched, we'd be done.
Big one.
Jamie: Okay, I've got to eat all these.
What are these?
Morgan: I don't even know.
Jamie: I guess I'll find out.
[crunching] Ew!
We just started doing it and it worked out well.
Here.
Ooh.
Mm-hmm!
Boom.
All right, that's four.
Not vegan.
Okay.
Oh, wow.
Thanks a lot.
Jamie: It's like a toothpaste chip.
Hurry!
Eat the crackers, man.
Rebecca: What?
John: Oh man, could we play golf?
No, nobody wants to see that.
[dramatic music] Pulling in at our second challenge, we see that it's a golf course, and I immediately know we're in trouble.
Morgan: Gummies.
Let's see, are they vegan?
No, they're not.
[buzzer] Jamie: Okay, you have to eat 'em.
I think I got frustrated in this challenge because it's quite unnatural to eat those foods in that order and at that speed.
That looks so gross.
Morgan: Might be vegan.
[buzzer] It's not.
Blech!
How'd we do?
Woman 1: That looks great.
Michael: "Take these cakes to your relatives at 436 Smith Point Road."
Grab that one.
All right.
I don't even know why we're here.
We're going to golf.
"Your relative is an avid golfer.
"Each of you must sink a putt from 10, 15, and 20 feet."
Honestly, today, the hardest thing is we've never golfed before.
Rebecca: Oh, come on.
Ooh, too much.
[Rebecca groans in frustration] Okay.
Jamie: I think Morgan's body was just like, what happened?
Morgan: I think it gets to a certain point where your body's like, "Nuh-uh."
[gags and coughs] [dramatic music] Dan: After a difficult day of competition... [gags] I told you to drink water with it!
Jamie: Dude, I did!
It's a bowl of cold beans!
Dan: Some teams charge forward... Should be our road, Tartarian Way, yes.
Dan: while others fall behind.
Rebecca: This could take a while.
[dramatic music] Michael: We're gonna take-- Yeah, we're going to take a left.
We finished the second challenge, got the address, and off we go to find our relative.
Dylan: Stop light.
Just keep going?
Well, if it's green, you keep going.
If not, you stop.
All right.
I think we should be close.
It's Sunday, and nothing is open, so we're just sticking to what the map says.
Come on, come on.
The fire stations were out automatically.
We couldn't use those.
So we really don't know what our options are.
This is so stressful.
Oh man.
We don't eat this kind of stuff.
We don't really eat a lot of chips and cookies like that.
Morgan: We don't!
[buzzer] Jamie: So we literally picked every non-vegan item off of this table, 15 disgusting dishes, and it all came down to whether I could eat this bread or not.
We don't golf.
And it's like 104 degrees out here.
John: Okay.
Oh, so close!
Okay, grab it.
Just not knowing how our swing is going to affect the ball and where it's going to go, because we've never golfed before, just made it really difficult for us.
Rebecca: Yes, yes, yes.
John: Finally.
Rebecca: Where did you get that?
Holy moley.
Morgan: If you can't do it, it's okay.
Yes, I can.
Yes, I can.
Morgan: We'll take last place.
I know.
All right.
Jamie: But there's no way I was ever going to give up.
I mean, not now, not ever.
Morgan: Fine.
Jamie: No, I'm going to finish it.
Morgan: All right.
Jamie: So we finish the challenge.
But we lost a lot of time.
"Your relative lives at 2133 Shell Lane NW."
All right, off we go.
Dan: Team Green is off to find their relative, hoping that they can catch up to the competition.
Michael: We looked up.
I mean, the road was right there today.
Whoa, stop!
Turn around!
Smith Point.
I see it.
Michael: Go down here and turn around.
Troy: That's the turn.
It's right there.
Right there, right there, right there.
Back it up, back it up, back it up.
Go, go, go, go, go, go, GO, GO, son!
I'm doing it, I'm doing it!
Nicole: Right here, right here.
Troy: 2442.
Got it.
Pull in, pull in, pull in.
Michael: That's it, right in front of us.
Got it.
Michael: Right in front of us.
Got it.
Troy: Yep.
Heck yeah!
Yes!
Come on, baby.
Hi, how are you?
[knocks on door] Michael: Hi, can we get a quick selfie, selfie?
Yes!
We need to get a selfie-- We're going to take a selfie really fast.
[indistinct] [camera shutter clicks] Dan: Team Red is the first to reach their relative and stop their clock, but Team Blue is right on their heels.
All right, let me get low here.
Everybody's tall except me, I'm short.
[camera shutter clicks] Nope, that's just me.
[camera shutter clicks] Dan: Team Blue has arrived and their clock is stopped.
Now they must wait for the other teams to clock in before the final results can be calculated.
But in the interim, it's time to meet family.
Okay, who's-- Man 3: So you're Bob Harmon's son, Troy?
That's me.
Yes.
I'm your father's brother, Dave.
No way.
Dave: Your uncle.
Bless you.
Immediately it just hit me and I'm like, "This was the guy I wanted to meet."
I'm so glad to finally meet you.
Troy: And I was thinking in my head, "I'm not going to let this guy go until I have all my questions answered.
Dave: My name is David Harmon.
Troy's father was my brother, and I'm Troy's uncle.
I remember when my brother called me and he says, "I have a son.
His name is Troy."
And I never got a chance to meet Troy, so it's been really good getting together and meeting him.

Well, come on inside.
Troy: Yeah.
Dave: I've got some stuff that you should see.
All right, sounds good.
♪ Michael: So how are we related and who am I related to?
Rhonda is our mother.
I'm your sister.
What?
I'm your sister.
[sniffs] [crying] Michael: Um, I mean, for the first time in my entire life, I just found out I've got a sister, Stephanie.
Oh, we've got lots to talk about.
Yeah, we have.
Michael: Because you're the first person I have met on my mother's side.
I never knew you existed.
Michael: Today I walked up to that door not knowing anything, and then I found out I have a great sister.
It really just hit me and I had just to take a time-out.
I got-- I gotta have a minute.
No cameras, no nothing.
Just-- [breathes deeply] I know it's a lot for him to take in.
Yeah.
[sobbing] Michael: I had so many emotions and my mind was just racing a thousand miles in totally different directions [sniffling] And sitting down here on the dock, she came down to check on me.
Stephanie: You mind if I sit with you?
Michael: I've never had a sister or anybody like that be able just to come over and touch me and say, "Are you okay?"
So, I mean, to have a moment like that, that is outstanding and I'm so happy that I got a sister.
I'm excited.
Oh, I am too.
Trust me, I'm excited.
Trust me when I say I'm excited.
Because I am all about family.
Michael: Well, you're the first person I have met from my mother's side.
Yeah.
Michael: You haven't talked to her in... Over 18 years.
Michael: Do you know where she lives?
Stephanie: No.
My dad gave full custody to my-- My adopted mom.
Michael: She is the first puzzle piece for that half of my puzzle.
I'm okay now.
Well, let me have a hug.
Michael: I have a sister on my mother's side.
Dan: Meanwhile, Team Black is still putting away as their clock rolls on.
John: Come on, come on, come on, come on!
Okay, go.
Took us a few tries, more than I would have liked.
Good.
Come on.
Rebecca: Oh, done.
John: I'm hoping that being able to get to our relative's house quickly, hopefully-- Hopefully.
We'll save ourselves from a strike.
All righty.

Jamie: So we got to meet four cousins in one day.

Kem: So are, are you all hungry?
Both: You know... Jamie: Then they asked if we were hungry, and we had to tell them about our "fun" challenge.
You had to eat it all because you were wrong?

[laughs] But the dinner was actually fantastic and the company was excellent.

Michael: Because you're the first person I have met on my mother's side.
[crying] Dan: As they discover new family.

Troy: And I was thinking in my head, "I'm not going to let this guy go until I have all my questions answered."
Dan: In northern California, Troy Hitt from Team Red meets his uncle for the first time.

♪ He has laid out this memorium-- that's the best way to describe it-- for my dad.
Personal effects, photo albums.
I immediately, before I even sat down, like, that's my dad.
He went to work for Beech Aircraft and he went all over the place, I mean, all over the world.
Troy: He was an aircraft mechanic.
He's got two passports and they've got stamps from Korea, Saudi Arabia-- He's been all over.
First of all, he's a good-looking guy.
Look at his butterfly collar.
Dave: Here's his wallet.
What?
Yeah.
Troy: That's crazy.
I'm gonna go through my dad's wallet.
Dave: Yeah.
There you go.
Nicole: Do it.
Wow, that's an old social security card.
Troy: Yeah.
Nicole: Whenever it comes in metal.
Troy: They left it as it sits, just for me so I could be the first one to open it.
Dave: Giving Troy Bob's articles was... To me, kind of fulfilling that, you know, it really belongs with Troy.
Troy: It's crazy that going through a wallet, how you can really get to know somebody.
Takes a while to sink in, you know?
He can at least touch and kind of feel part of Bob.
Rebecca: So Ron and his wife, Lynn, invite us into the house.
And they take us into another room and immediately, we meet...
I know your face.
[crying] Hi.

This is my daughter, Michelle.
I'm Michelle.
And Rebecca, I'm your-- I'm your great uncle.

I'm Karen's uncle.

And Ron and my brother and myself are grand-uncles of Rebecca Hoyt.
Michelle: When Rebecca was younger, I was still in high school, right around the time her mom, Karen, passed away, and...
I just remember Rebecca and her sister, Ashley, as well, being, just very energetic, happy, full-of-life girls.
I always just wondered what happened to them and now I know.
Everything that Karen talked about was her kids.
Rebecca: They actually know a lot about my mom.
My great-uncle Jon has a ton of pictures and stories because he actually babysat my sister and I growing up.
There were many nights when they went out and I babysat and gave you girls a bath and put you to bed and read to you before you went to bed.
To have her taken away for something not of her choosing-- It was absolutely impossible to bear.
It was really like a big piece of our life was gone, and now to see you here is just amazing.
I think I have more family than I know what to do with now.
Boy, I'll tell you, I waited a long time to be able to hug you.
I love you very much.
I love you too and I don't remember you.
[laughs] Welcome back into the family.

Coming back to where we started: everybody together.
♪ Dan: Back in North Carolina, Michael and his sister grow even closer.
Michael: After we talked for a bit on the dock, she invited me back up to the house, so we sit down, relax for a moment, and get to talk and get to know each other a little bit better.
Stephanie: I'm Stephanie Smith and I'm Michael's sister.
To finally meet my brother that I never knew I had, I'd like to make him feel like he is part of my family, which he is.
And I did bring out a picture of our biological mother.
[sobbing] Michael: And for the first time in my life, I got to see the face of my biological mother.
Our mother's name is Rhonda.
I would love to find-- find her.
Michael: Stephanie told me that our mother's name is Rhonda, but she hasn't talked to her or even seen her in like 20 years since her dad took custody of her, so that's all I know right now.
She is so young.
So what's coming to you when you see her?
My entire life...
I wanted to meet you face-to-face.
My mind is all over the place.
I mean, I wasn't expecting this... at all.
Stephanie: The moment he walked through that door...
I already felt the connection.
But I'm glad I did this.
I'm glad that I was able to meet him.
Michael: We started talking about eye color.
We have the same eye color.
The nose bridge right across the face, right through there, it's just exactly the same.
It's awesome to say for the very first time, I have my sister's eyes.
There you go.
And I have my brother's eyes.
I also want him to know that I'm here for him.
I don't want him to feel like he's ever alone ever again.
I will always be there for him, always.
Michael: I've wanted this since I was little, but this is awesome.
♪ Dan: Meanwhile... the sisters dive into their relationship.
So after we had dinner, Kem invited us to head on over to the park.
Jamie: She's got her laptop.
She opens it up and she shows us exactly how we are connected.
Kem: So, my great-grandfather and your great-grandfather were brothers.
Wow.
Wow.
Jamie: Sampson and Sherman were brothers.
So we also learned that Sampson and Sherman were both freed slaves in their lifetime, and we were able to even see where Sampson was buried.
Jamie: We've always known that there were people in our bloodline that were slaves, but to actually see a name of a family member who was a freed slave, that is incredible, and if we walk away with this, knowing that our great-grandfather was born a slave, but he died free, like, we have won.
We have won.
I did not know that and we've already won.
Wait, wait, wait.
Morgan: So then Kem's mom saw a name on the family tree and it took us all by surprise.
My mother recognized the name Glenora Caldwell.
Jamie and Morgan: That's our great-grandmother!
We grew up with her!
What?
Morgan: Chattanooga!
[excited chattering] It means that Kem's mom and aunt, Dorothy and Bertha, who we met today, grew up with our granny!
I grew up with her!
Oh my goodness.
Jamie: It was really exciting to hear our grandmother's name and her siblings' names.
And know who she was.
I know all of 'em!
We raised 'em together!
Wow!
What?
Jamie: I don't know, it just really means that we're family.
[excited chattering] Dan: With connections growing by the minute for Team Green, in Califronia, Troy Hitt continues to find out more about his father.
Troy: Well, my Uncle Dave came around and he said I've got one more thing for you.
Of course, another Harley Davidson.
Dave: This one is going to be a little more heart-wrenching.
That's his urn.
It was a memoriam.
It was his urn.
Dave: It kind of felt like the Harley kind of fit him.
[sobbing quietly] Troy: It had, um, his name and his birthdate, '47, October 2002 when he passed away.
And I didn't know how to take it, like, he's literally bringing my dad to me right now.
I learned more about him in this past ten minutes than I ever knew.
Dave: I'm glad that we were able to get together and let you know a little bit about him.

I kept reading his name and the date and riding home, and I just kept reading it in my head, over and over again.
It just took a while to sink in that this is, this is literally my dad, this is what's left of my dad is these memories and here he is, right here.

♪ Dan: The results are in for Day Six of "Relative Race."
John: So far, we're either first or last.
We killed it today.
But I'm concerned about Team Black.
They always seem like they find the way to win, so I don't know.
Morgan: We know that there is a strike possibility tonight.
Jamie: And it's not a good feeling.
Michael: All we gotta do is finish first, second or third.
That's it.
Dan: Who's safe and who risks getting a strike?
We're about to find out.
Welcome, teams.
Can you believe it?
We're at the end of Day Six and all four of you have survived thus far.
We are more than halfway through the race at this point.
All four of you have had very emotional days, very emotional discoveries.
Team Black, because of your win yesterday, you chose an immediate game benefit, which was to skip your first challenge.
Do you feel that that was necessary?
Skipping our first challenge was the best choice we could have made, because we struggled with our second, and we struggled with some heavy traffic today, too.
Dan: The one team that really struggled were the two sisters.
Tell us what happened in the challenges.
I'm not an artist and we had to take turns and so every time I had to sculpt something, it was more challenging.
No matter what your struggles were in your challenges, the payoff when you met your relative and in this case, relatives, plural, tell the rest of these teams, what was that like?
We got the name of one of our relatives that we know for sure was born a slave, but died a free man.
So, um, we've always known that we don't come from the prettiest past, but to know a name of one of our relatives who died a free man...
I feel like it's worth whatever we have to take to have gotten here today.
Dan: And Michael, today was no different for you.
On the first day of this race, you met your father.
Who did you meet today?
Michael: Today, I met my sister, on my mother's side, and for the first time in my life, I got to see the face of my mother.
She brought pictures.
First time in my life.
[crying] Dan: You are competing against each other and yet the competition, I would imagine, in some ways, melts away in these moments.
This is what it's all about.
Dan: It's been a race of discoveries for all of you, but... in some ways, Troy, it's... it's been almost overwhelming, and today was another one of those days for you.
Troy: Uh, yes.
[clears throat] I had a lot of questions going into this race, and at every leg they seem to get answered, but today I got as close to my dad as I possibly could.
I was introduced to his only brother, my uncle.
[sniffing] And he filled in all the blanks.
He had all the answers to the questions about my dad that I needed.
Including, Troy, you were able to touch, and hold, and look through your father's wallet.
Yeah, they left it as it was and kept it for me.
And I was able to go through his personal belongings and touch and feel my dad as if he was right here.
Every kid loves to go through thier dad's wallet, and I got to go through my dad's wallet for the first time Dan: What are some of the things, Troy, that you were able to discover about your father?
[sobbing] My Uncle Dave brought out my dad's urn, So I got to put....
I got to...
I got to put my hands on my dad's urn.
I finally got to touch my dad again.
[sobbing] Dan: Troy, you've had an emotional roller coaster, as I said, as with everybody, but I do have some good news.
You finished in first place.
[sobbing] Dan: You were only ten minutes over your allotted time.
[Nicole laughs] Nicole: It makes it better.
Do you choose the mystery prize or the Day Ten benefit?
We choose the $50,000.
Dan: Wow, that's a throw down.
So, no mystery prize.
You are going to choose the Day Ten benefit.
Absolutely.
This whole game is a mystery, so we'll just leave that that way and take the Day Ten benefit.
Fair enough.
We wish you good luck the rest of the race.
And so now we have Team Black, Team Green, and Team Blue.
Team Blue, I will remind you that you have two strikes.
But did you receive your third strike?
The answer is... You finished in second place.
You finished with a time of 38 minutes over your allotted time.
You have survived to race another day.
It's now between Team Green and Team Black.
[music intensifies] Team Black, you really struggled.
Team Green, you had a difficult, challenging day all day long.
And what I can tell you is, Team Black, you are very fortunate that you were able to skip your first challenge, because you finished in third place.
Rebecca: Skipping that first challenge saved us big time.
Absolutely.
Dan: Ladies, you finished one hour and fourteen minutes over your allotted time.
You have received your second strike.
Morgan: So, tonight we found out that we got a strike, which we had already mentally prepared ourselves for because we felt like we were trying to do the impossible.
Dan: Team Green and Team Blue, you know you are dangerously close to exiting this race.
For all four of you, it's time to get some well-deserved rest because this is "Relative Race" and the race rolls on.

We're really happy that Team Red got a win today.

Rebecca: I am so glad.
John: Skipping that challenge.
Dan: Team Red finally tops the leaderboard tonight at just over ten minutes over their allotted time and Troy and Nicole pocket a Day Ten benefit.
It's a coin.
I don't know what the coin is.
Nicole: I don't either.
Troy: But it has the capital on it.
Maybe we'll use that to pay for parking.
I don't know what it is.
[laughing] Dan: In second place, Michael and Dylan remain in the game with two strikes, clocking in at 38 minutes over their allotted time.
Stephanie: Yay!
We survived.
Yay!
One more day.
We want to win a day, trust me, but we didn't lose.
Dan: Team Black, John and Rebecca, narrowly escape a second strike, coming in 41 minutes over their allotted time.
That was close.
That was close.
Whoof.

Dan: And receiving their second strike with a time of one hour and fourteen minutes over their allotted time, Team Green, Jamie and Morgan, are now one strike away from heading home.
I don't know what we could have done better.
I have no idea.
♪ Troy: I feel like I finally found my dad.
I know who he is.
I have never cried so much in front of my own wife in the whole time that we've been together, um, but you can't prepare for that.
Rebecca: All of us have a story, all of us have some sort of battle, and hearing that Michael got to get a picture of his mother for the first time in his life, and Troy got to hold his father.
I'm not alone in my battles, not by a long shot.
Nicole: It's real that there's a possibility that someone could go home tomorrow, but I don't want any of the other teams to go home either.
Morgan: It's hard not to genuinely root for these people.
I mean, every other team, they all seem like really good people, We're so happy for them.
Everything that they've acquired from my dad, personal belongings, everything, they're going to give to me, including his urn, so that's pretty special.
And Uncle Dave, I love you for that.
This is your room.

This competition is so real.
It's so emotional.
