You want to go visit?
Would you like to pet my dog?
-This is Gabriel.
-Hi, Gabriel.
-You must have a dog.
Do you?
- I do.
-Oh, let me give you his card, OK?
I knew.
I could tell right away by the way you petted him.
Have a good flight.
Thank you.
What I like best about visiting is it gives me a really wonderful feeling in my heart when I know that I made a difference in someone's day, even if it's just a slight difference.
And for him, he just loves meeting people.
He really does.
This is Gabe.
Do you have a dog at your house?
-No.
-Well, he loves it if you pet him here.
Yeah.
Good boy.
Yeah.
Heres his card, too.
Do you collect the cards?
The DEN CATS program is therapy dogs and one therapy cat that actually come out here with their owners, so they're all volunteer-based.
People travel for a variety of reasons, and not always really great reasons.
And airports can be stressful.
So the therapy teams provide that stress relief, a smile, a break in the craziness of an airport.
My dad's a pilot.
He flies for Frontier.
And he'll be coming back from a trip and be like, I met the nicest therapy dog today.
And hell do it every time he comes home from a trip.
And so he definitely sees them all the time.
Even as somebody who flies a lot, it is still a stressful experience.
So the therapy animals always help.
See there you are with your card.
There you are.
I know.
This collection right over here has actually been started by one of our old managers.
The CATS program actually does impact us.
When we're working, were standing here for hours on end.
So it's always great to have that little escape.
She's the one registered therapy cat on the team.
-Oh, wow!
-On the CATS team.
Oftentimes we get the double-take of like, oh, is that a cat, or a dog, or what's going on?
But sometimes people just swarm us Theyre like, oh my gosh, you know, miss my cat, miss my pets.
I love that so much.
Thank you.
-Yeah of course.
Have a good day.
Galway is very chill.
She's funny.
She has one speed.
We don't really move too fast.
We're on Galway time.
How are you?
Youre welcome to pet her.
One of the things I remember about our visits here was a gentleman I met who was traveling from Florida, and I said, would you like to hug my therapy dog, or say hi to my therapy dog?
And he said, I think I would.
So we started talking and he told me that he had been to the funeral of his grandson, and he was all alone here, traveling.
He was very tired, very sad.
And we talked for quite a few minutes just about life in general.
And the whole time he's hugging Galway.
And at the end of it, he hugged me and he said, Thank you so much for spending time with me and talking to me.
Thats my girl.
