I think that there is still some expectation that we'll just go and sit in our rocking chairs and knit and that we don't have too much to offer.
But that is absolutely not the case.
The Ms. Senior America Pageant is the world's first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to women who have reached the age of elegance.
It's a pageant for ladies that are 60 or older.
The biggest thing is seeing these ladies that were very unsure of themselves, and “I'm not sure if I want to do this.” They just morph into these elegant ladies.
They've always had it.
You know they've always had it.
I no longer cook in my kitchen.
My kitchen is used for dancing.
Alright, so.
We do five weeks of rehearsal.
We're going to run through it just like you were doing it on the stage.
They will go through all aspects of the pageant.
It comes together, they meet each other, they become friends.
It's like a graduating class every year.
And when they get out on that stage, they just glow.
I have found out that I'm very nurturing and that I smile an awful lot because I am having so much fun.
And I am confident in who I am as a person and as an individual.
I think I'm a hot looking mama, no doubt.
Now I'm looking fabulous.
Now I want to pay it forward.
I learned to just be authentic, to be who I am, and just relax and go with the flow.
The connection with everyone is really great.
Just meeting new sisters, you know, of a lifetime, and just having that friendship for always.
Lets go girls!
We're here to support one another no matter what, and just have a great experience, you know, with each other.
Seniors are active and we have a lot going for us.
I hate to see a woman get downsized and think, “That's the end of the world.
I'll just stay home.
I'm too frumpy to wear jewelry or a ball gown.” Oh heavens, honey, get up.
Get out there and do it.
